- No One’s the Bitch: A Family Osmosis or, Watching My “Nephew” for the Weekend - “This weekend I did something kind of weird, only in the sense that it doesn’t happen very often around the world, as far as I know… I babysat David and Carol’s [her ex-husband's and kids' stepmom's] 3-year old son, Jacob from Friday morning ’til Sunday afternoon. They went out of town for a well-deserved break…” (more)
- She who laughs, lasts: crazy in the triangle - “I’ve been thinking about my situation and how horrible it was the first few years after the divorce. It felt like I was living in one of Dante’s circles of hell. I’m quite sure that I was the ‘crazy’ one in the co-parenting triangle of ex-husband, his girlfriend (now wife) and me for quite a while.” (more)
- Stepmomster: how one stepmom feels - “I realized recently what is so difficult about becoming a stepmom for me. It is the feeling of being powerless.” (more)
The internet has been exploding with insights, reflection, discussion and just plain great stories from the stepfamily and single parent family blogs lately — like Jen watching her ex-husband’s youngest child for the weekend! Or like Natalie thinking through the early years of her divorce.
Also check out Mrs. H’s help-wanted ad over at A Stepmom’s Say. It’s written to be funny, and while I don’t entirely agree with the perspective — even as a joke — Mrs. H’s writing always makes me want to talk about ideas. Even when I disagree with what she is saying, I feel stimulated — not enraged. Mrs. H is a compelling writer, and she seems like someone it would be fun to talk to. Her post is inspiring lots of conversation in the comments and other places online.
