Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
I think we have a tradition between houses of hinting about what we’d like for Christmas from each other. (I say “I think” because I’m not quite sure if it’s an official tradition, but, um, I follow it at least.) This year I asked Kathy for copies of a few of her favorite books. Eat, Pray, Love was at the top of the stack in the first bundle of books I opened, and it was the first one I tore through. And I loved it. Elizabeth Gilbert was recently divorced and miserable when she decided she wanted to travel around the world for a year, focusing on pleasure in Italy, devotion in India, and balance in Bali, and then write a book about it. She’s believable, she’s loveable, she’s larger than life, but she’s not intimidating. She’s like a best friend or a sister encouraging you into unpredictable adventure, calling that the water’s warm, the world is wild, and happiness after heartbreak and soulbreak is possible — even better than before.

I need to read this book. I’ve read many good things about it and have not gotten to it yet. It’s on my list, though, so that counts for something, right?
Any of you who haven’t read this book, do something nice for yourself and go pick it up. It is wonderful and hilarious and heart-breaking. I’ve read it twice and then again for my book group. I love her and you will, too!

I agreee - it’s a wonderful book! I’m passing my copy on to all my female relatives. I wish the males would read it, but it would never happen.
I’m impressed that you two write a blog together. You’re obviously both very good at peacemaking!
Have a great 2008!!
